My Polio

Pam Tubbs is a Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Norfolk and a polio survivor.

As a new Rotarian in 2003, Pam was intrigued and excited to learn about Rotary's connection with polio eradication, as she herself had polio in 1954. She had seemingly completely recovered to become a healthy, physically active child and young adult; it was not until midway through her Navy career that Pam began to suffer new weakness, leading to a diagnosis of Post-Polio Syndrome. It's noted that, in world history, until the Baby Boomer generation, there had never lived a statistically significant number of polio victims who survived long enough to develop polio-related physical problems later in life. Her polio experience has given Pam special insight, and she is happy to share her story with fellow Rotarians.
